Today’s leftists are the new "useful" ones. Stalin called the liberals of his day "useful idiots." Those liberals unwittingly assisted Stalin by not recognizing what he was and what he was up to – a ruthless, diabolical dictator who without mercy set up a tyrannical regime that relentlessly oppressed both anyone who stood in his way in particular and the population of the Soviet Union in general, with scores and scores murdered by him. The liberals of old did nothing to stop him, and no doubt some were romanced by communism’s promise of providing for all and making a better society for its citizens– which were absolute lies dripping with fraud.
Fast forward to today. Now we have leftists who have taken up the role of the old liberals. We will not use the term Stalin did, as we do not like that tone, and are not going to engage in the same name-calling that the Left does to us. The term we use is "appeasers," as in the new useful appeasers. Leftists who simply do not recognize that Islamic fundamentalists and terrorists, if left unhindered, will not "peacefully co-exist," but will stop at nothing to murder any and all who do not give allegiance to their concept of God and society–including, of course, all Jews, but also including Christians, Buddhists, Hindus, and even other Muslims who do not follow them, or who get in their way.
These leftists often decry and oppose actions by Israel to defend itself, but stay silent as Islamic terrorists blow up, i.e., murder, innocent people of every description, including, in many instances, other Muslims. The liberals of today are every bit as useful to the Stalins of today as the liberals of yesterday were to the original tyrant.
It is not accurate to state that it is "only" the leftist bloggers of the internet and the far-left babblers of liberal radio who occupy this role. No, it is Big Media that really spreads the mantra of the new useful appeasers. The difference between Big Media and the lesser-reaching bloggers and radioheads is clear. The general public is not going to spend much time tuned into liberal radio (their pitiful ratings prove that) or logged onto leftist bloggers whose extremism is too much even for independents and moderates.
Big Media, on the other hand, is everywhere. So many Americans routinely tune into those networks, either in the morning while getting ready for work, or in the evening after returning. Too many people simply don’t question what they hear on TV or read in the newspaper, and almost subliminally accept what they are "fed" by the "big" networks and conglomerate-owned newspapers. Oh, that is changing. The competition that presents "balanced" news pesters and infuriates Big Media, and more and more of you are tuning in and reading. That disrupts the "party line" of liberal political correctness and leftist agenda presented by Big Media.
But do not be mistaken. Big Media, both on TV and in print, still wields a powerful sword–and, it is a sword. That sword has cut a wide path for Barack Obama to run straight through to the presidency, if Big Media has its way. We don’t find it surprising at all that terrorist elements such as Hamas have expressed their preference that Obama be elected–they well know that John McCain will not by any stretch of the imagination be an "appeaser" to what they seek to do. They’d much rather have the candidate who thinks talking things over will take care of things. How anyone who is concerned for the security of Israel can possibly think Obama would be preferable to McCain on that point is simply far beyond our level of comprehension.
Big Media opposes–or, alternatively, ignores, anyone who speaks against Big Media. Big Media attacks anyone who is not marching lock-step with leftist political correctness, and has helped liberal Democrats scream bloody murder at the Bush administration and anyone else who supports eavesdropping and other security measures designed to catch terrorists before they strike–but, if, Heaven forbid, another terrorist attack ever happens on American soil, will scream even louder (out of the other side of the mouth) that the Bush administration did not do what it should have to keep us safe.
Odd thing: the British authorities foiled the planned terrorists attacks on Heathrow Airport using the same means that the leftists screamed about on our side of the pond. Over here, the leftists, aided in large part by Big Media, charged President Bush with taking away our civil liberties for authorizing the same measures that led to the capture of the would-be attackers in England.
We cannot escape the glaring evidence that the national Democratic Party has been overrun by the leftists referenced above. The Democratic Party has too many "useful appeasers" and not enough Joseph Liebermans. Geez, they even kicked him out of their party with his primary defeat. Bad news for their own party, especially since he triumphed as an independent Democrat and thankfully remains in the U.S. Senate. But even worse news for the rest of us, and for all of America, if that party takes control of the White House in 2008.
For if it does, the Stalins of today–Osama Bin Laden and his sympathizers and copycats–will celebrate the return to power of the new "useful"appeasers, and the devastating drop that will occur in not only American security, but security everywhere.
