An old saying from the 1960s said that "Big Brother," that being the government, was "watching you," intruding too much into our privacy, becoming too powerful. Pundits on both sides of the political spectrum could debate that one for days on end.
Today you are being watched, in a sense, though we would say it is "Big Media" that is watching you, and trying to influence everything you believe, buy, consume and think, and especially have that influence upon your young and impressionable children. We define "Big Media" as including the liberal-leaning and/or outright liberal-biased media outlets, whether television, newspapers, internet, magazines, or radio, and which are doing whatever they can to advance the Left while hamstringing anything conservative. Their agenda includes advancing the side of "secular-progressives" in the "culture war" against traditional values, criticizing the Judeo-Christian values long a part of this country’s heritage. Most anything that is "evangelical Christian" or "conservative" is suspect to Big Media, unless those also bow to the god of political correctness.
The centerpiece of Big Media’s agenda is to do whatever it can to elect Barack Obama as the next President of the United States. Big Media so thirsts for that result and accompanying power that it even devoured "one of its own," Hillary Clinton, and now has its guns firing on another one who has at times enjoyed positive media treatment, John McCain.
As the election approaches, Big Media’s agenda has become all to clear, that of attacking John McCain and Sarah Palin, and ignoring any shortcomings of Barack Obama, or, alternatively, disparaging anyone who dares to criticize its Anointed One. We have to wonder about the accuracy of Big Media’s polls, for at least two reasons. If their so-called "reporting" is biased, then how accurate are their polls? Also, how can they accurately forecast the votes of 120 million people based upon polling less than 1,000 people, and without telling us who these 1,000 are, and how many of them are Democrats, Republicans, or independents.
Regardless, Big Media uses these poll "results" to continuously drive home its "foregone conclusion" that Obama will win. Why even show up to vote? Exactly, that is what they hope you will think. If all of us do show up and vote, then their "forecasts" may end up being about as accurate as one network’s "exit poll" in Florida on the 2004 Election Day, the one that had Kerry several points ahead when he was actually several points behind. Bush won the state, 52%–47%, not exactly a cliffhanger.
So, we ask you, are you watching Big Media? Do you spend a good deal of your day camped in front of a television, watching the liberal networks and their slanted presentations of the news, and then continue to watch as they present "family-unfriendly" programming? What about your children? Are they watching this stuff from the time they get home after school until they go to bed? If Big Media and the big networks are dominated by those on the Left, and have a distinctly liberal bias, then almost everything you, as well as your children, "consume" from Big Media and the networks has that slant, that family values-destroying slant.
Is there anything about the above that you consider to be "good" or desirable? Is vegetating in front of a television the way to discover the meaning of life, and to fill up our days? Thanking Big Media and the networks, and their cousins in liberal Hollywood and in the print media, for making our lives worthwhile?
Life is precious, and it is very short. Even a "long" life of 100 years is minuscule compared to the breadth of recorded history. Why spend it under the influence of that with which you disagree with, and know is not good for you, and especially for your children? We seriously doubt there will be a prize in the next life for those who watched the most TV. Especially when most TV is not good for us.
It is not just television by any means. Too many of the newspapers all across the country tilt sharply to the left, even in areas that are overall fairly conservative, and those papers serve as public-relations arms of the secularists who attack most anything Judeo-Christian and/or traditional. Unfortunately, this liberal bias can be found in newspapers in America’s smaller cities, not just the huge urban areas whose newspapers have long been identified with the Left. The same phenomenon extends to magazines, as too many serve as mouthpieces of the Left, and bashers of conservatives, Christians, and Republicans.
Please hear us, our disagreement is not with all television news and programming, or newspapers and magazines. There are notable exceptions even within the liberal media outlets, and they should be appreciated for what they do in that setting. There are also media outlets that do not cower to the liberal bias, and try to do things the right way, and we are thankful they are there. The same would go for the various internet-based legitimate news sources that do not bow to the liberal bias. At least now, as opposed to a few years ago, the rest of us who don’t cower to the gods of political correctness and the leftist agenda have somewhere to go to get news untainted by the Left.
The stereotype fostered by Big Media of most things conservative and most all things Christian, at least in the evangelical and "mainline" traditions, is overwhelmingly negative. Too often, to Big Media, "conservative" equals "bad" and "evangelical" equals "intolerant".
If a conservative or an evangelical, for example, does or says something inappropriate, or which can at least be portrayed that way, then it will be seized upon by Big Media and used to glaringly reinforce the stereotype. The "act" complained of may actually have been unfortunate and wrong, but its effect and occurrence are often exaggerated by Big Media and/or magnified to the fullest and most negative extent possible.
Meanwhile, when someone on the Left does or says something inappropriate, or even worse by comparison than the acts complained of above, then a different reaction often comes from Big Media. There may be a "I didn’t see anything, did you?" "No, not a thing" type of reaction. There may be some reporting of the occurrence, but its effect will be downplayed as much as possible, if not entirely understated and/or ignored. If reported at all, a "mistake" by a liberal Democrat usually receives the "24-hour story" treatment, and then gets the see-no-evil, report-no-evil treatment from Big Media.
We don’t claim to have "all" the answers. We don’t hate liberals. We don’t hate Senator Obama, and we would caution anyone viewing this site against engaging in the type of hateful comments and practices found on a number of "leftist" websites, who attack most anything conservative, Republican, or Christian. We would never say that someone who is liberal politically cannot be a Christian. We don’t claim to be better than the next person. We will not engage in "vitriolic" attacks on liberals and leftists, but just because we disagree with them and plainly say so, does not make us "intolerant." The real "intolerants" are the leftists, particularly those in Big Media, who act as if anyone who disagrees with them is "suspect" and not to be trusted.
There is much more to life than camping in front of a television. There is so much need in this world, and so many opportunities to make a difference. Do you know the fulfillment you feel when you volunteer, and help someone who might not even know you? We haven’t seen a television program that offers as good a feeling or sense of being than helping another person, whether that is providing food or other necessities, or assisting in the building of their home, or other efforts. Plus, there are a lot more ways to have "fun" than just robotically tuning into network television night after night.
It seems that every national election we face, at least those involving the presidency, gets termed "the most important election ever." But, we think that is the case here, in 2008. We face danger at every turn, from both terrorists outside our country, some of whom would love to move inside–and eventually will, if "open borders" rule the day, and we also face a huge threat from the moral decay that affects too much of our country within.
You can make a difference. You can think for yourself. You do not have to accept the "spoon feeding" that Big Media offers you most every hour.
As our title said, Big Media is watching you. Are you watching them?
