ACORNS FALLING NOT FAR FROM THE TREE...
Here we go again. In the new "stimulus" package proposed by President Obama, there is a gigantic $5.2 BILLION for that nice neighborhood "community group" ACORN. No, we’re not kidding.
Remember the "original" bailout, the one before the election? Congress loaded that one down with "pork" before it passed. The new "stimulus" package gives ACORN its humongous gift within an item termed "Neighborhood Stabilization Programs." This, according to an article on newsmax.com today, January 28, 2009.
So, now we get the new pork-barrel, double-barrel shot. Remember also, America elected a President who made "pork" a regular item on his Senatorial diet, bringing in loads and loads of money for his state in special interests. His defeated opponent opposed that kind of spending at every turn, and did not acquire such for his state. Look who won...
In our column posted the day after the election, Congrats, Condolences and Answers We’ll Never See, we listed several questions we figured we would never see the answer to, that Big Media would not dare attempt to investigate and/or answer, and that any other media that did would be ignored and/or slammed for doing so. Here were three of those questions that the above brings to mind:
"1. How many fraudulent votes got cast, nationwide? How many people voted more than once, or voted in the name of a dead person or someone else?.......
9. Will ACORN continue to be allowed to take your tax dollars and conduct partisan activities that favor one party, i.e., Democrats?
10. Will anything be done about ACORN’s practices of allegedly fraudulent voter registration, including registering people multiple times and under incorrect and/or fictitious names?
11. Will people such as Joe the Plumber who ask questions, and/or disagree with the new administration, get "investigated" by Big Media or the government in the Democrats’ new administration?
AND, to us, the biggest question of all:
Will the media bother to really investigate and genuinely attempt to answer these questions, and, if so, make as big a fuss over those as they do over the barrage of negatives they routinely hurl at Republicans?
We won’t be holding our breath."
We’re still not holding our breath. We can’t say we are shocked at this news, but we do find it disappointing. This maneuver, and we think it is fair to call it that, is not exactly "change we can believe in," but far from it. We hoped that President Obama would recognize that he needed to govern from the center, at the least, and not be beholden to partisans like Pelosi and Reid, but we shall see. While some of his appointments gave that indication, a so-called "stimulus" package loaded down with special interest pork is hardly "change" that this country needs.
Going further and further down the road of a government-controlled economy, and in a rising number of areas, a government-owned economy, is not the right direction, or a good one, in our opinion. Particularly when pork-barrel funds are tossed to special-interest groups, including one which has been under investigation for alleged fraudulent voter registration in various places [question: How many of the Dallas Cowboys actually did vote in Nevada??].
Please stay tuned. Both to what happens with this "stimulus" package and with our website, www.BoycottBigMedia.com. We feel compelled to put "stimulus" in quotes each time we use that word in this instance, because we don’t think this is the way to rescue our economy–more accurately, it is overbearing government control and pork-barrel funding at its worse. You can let your elected representatives hear from you, loudly and clearly, though hopefully respectfully, that you don’t think much of this "stimulus" package either, and let them know you want them to vote it down.
And, stay tuned to our website. We will be getting back to posting a column each week, perhaps more often, and we hope to have a musical "response" to these bailouts in the near future...
Finally, if you are new to this site, please understand that though we favored McCain/Palin in the election, and believe "Big Media" did all it could to sink them and elevate its favorite candidate–and succeeded at that–we still wish our new President and Vice-President the best, we pray for they and their families regularly, we wish the best for our country and the world, and we don’t spew the venomous hatred that describes too many "opinion" websites. That being said, we are still entitled to express those opinions, even if those go against the grain of the rising tide of the Left.
